Backdrop
Hi.
I’m seeing quite a few back drops on cakes which look fab. I’ve never made one so I have a few questions lol
Do you make the backdrop using a cake card or drum?
How do you attach the backdrop to the cake drum that the actual cake is sitting on? How secure is it? Do you hand it to the customer complete and attached?
Any things to avoid when making a back drop?

Peggy does cake has a blog that shows how to use scrap book paper and contact paper to cover a cake drum. This is the method I use for all my cakes. I always have my cakes on a thin cake board so I attach this cake board to the drum with ganache. I hope this helps and what you were asking
I use a cake drum for my backdrops. I hammer them in first with nails, then ice the drums like you would for a normal cake. They are pretty secure. Emily made a wish on facebook first posted about these, and she has a small tutorial on her facebook page:

No probs! I made a headboard for a cake bed that way too, just using a thinner rectangular board and iced it. It was so much better than making one out of flower paste and sticking it on the edge of the cake. xxx
I make quite a few bed cakes so I’ll try that next time. Thanks Amanda. I’d better get some panel pins lol
